I like slow mornings with strong coffee and a window seat at my favorite Kiez café.

Look for Anna Hirsch Bar along a quiet stretch in Berlin, wedged between a handful of other late-night spots and restaurants. The entrance leads straight into a single, compact room – no side areas or hidden nooks, just one main space where everything happens. A long wooden bar runs along one wall, lined with stools that fill up quickly after opening. Small tables cluster near the front windows and along the opposite side, close enough that conversations drift from one group to the next. Toward the back, a dance floor sits ready – most nights it doubles as extra standing room unless a DJ is in the corner spinning records. Drinks drive the rhythm here. The menu leans hard into cocktails, both the classics and a few house signatures – gin basil smash shows up often, but bartenders mix just about anything from the well-stocked shelves behind the bar. There’s no food coming out of the place; it’s strictly drinks-only. Some nights, the music gets turned up and records come out, shifting the whole mood toward a low-key party. The room stays dim, with candles on every table and a disco ball overhead catching bits of light. Dark wood runs through the space, from the bar to the window ledges. Smoking is allowed inside, so a steady haze settles in most evenings, though regulars don’t seem to mind. There’s no outdoor seating, and the windows usually stay closed, especially in colder months. Anna Hirsch is run by a small team, with the owner often behind the bar mixing drinks and talking with regulars. Doors open at 19:00, and the place draws a steady neighborhood crowd. The website lists basic info, but most people just show up and find a seat. The bar is in a part of Berlin with plenty of other options nearby, but regulars tend to settle in for the night once they’ve found a spot here.
