"Texas Country Reporter" is a weekly syndicated television program exploring the diverse people, places, and stories of the Lone Star State. Launched in 1972 as "4 Country Reporter" on Dallas television station KDFW, it stands as the nation's longest-running independently produced program. The show has earned over thirty Emmy awards for its distinctive approach to capturing authentic Texan life. Its core philosophy highlights "ordinary people doing extraordinary things," focusing on unsung heroes and the passion behind their work in rural and small-town Texas, offering uplifting glimpses into humanity. For decades, the program featured longtime host Bob Phillips, who began hosting in 1973 and independently syndicated the show beginning in 1986. He was inducted into the Silver Circle of the Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2005 for his broadcast journalism contributions. His wife, Kelli Phillips, joined as co-host in 2015, and together they traveled extensively to unearth these stories. In 2021, Phillips Productions, the show's production company, was acquired by Texas Monthly. As of September 2024, J.B. Sauceda assumed the role of host, maintaining the program's focus on individual narratives and visually engaging content. "Texas Country Reporter" broadcasts weekly in all Texas media markets and nationally on RFD-TV. The program also hosts an annual festival that connects featured individuals with viewers.
