Loquat Coffee

Cypress Park roasting HQ for the Kumquat team, clad in a bold yellow industrial shell. The tight room pours complex anaerobic coffees and mascarpone-topped lattes for a standing-room crowd.

While Kumquat built a reputation on curation, Loquat is where the team takes control of the roast. Opened in 2022 by Scott Sohn and AJ Kim, this Cypress Park shop operates as the production arm for the brand, roasting the micro–lots and Cup of Excellence grade beans that eventually make their way across town. The space itself matches the intensity of the coffee program – a compact room done up in industrial black and canary yellow. It’s tight inside, with only a handful of tables and a four–seat bar where you can watch the baristas navigate a counter full of high–end gear, including a Weber EG-1 grinder and a VA Eagle machine. The menu splits the difference between purist brewing and creative texture. You can order a pour–over of a Geisha bean processed with 72–hour anaerobic fermentation, or opt for something heavier like the Marble – a layered mix of matcha and espresso – or drinks capped with thick mascarpone cream. Because the footprint is small, lines often spill out onto the sidewalk when it gets busy. The kitchen turns out breakfast burritos and pastries like morning buns, but volume is limited. If you arrive too late in the morning, you’ll likely find the food case empty.
