Burton Chace Park

Ten-acre park on a peninsula surrounded by water, with wide lawns and pathways for watching boats drift by. Public barbecue grills and picnic shelters fill up on weekends; free summer concerts take over the main lawn.

Burton Chace Park is a 10-acre stretch of green space that juts out on a peninsula into Marina del Rey’s main channel. This unique layout means the park is surrounded by water on three sides, creating panoramic views of the boats constantly moving in and out of the harbor. Named for Burton W. Chace – the L.A. County Supervisor considered the "Father of the Marina" – the park has been the area's central public hub since it opened in 1972. The grounds are a simple mix of wide, rolling lawns and paved pathways that trace the water's edge, with the sounds of rigging and the occasional bark of a sea lion as a constant backdrop. The space is designed for low-key recreation. Throughout the grounds, you’ll find several pergolas often used for weddings and three large, covered picnic shelters equipped with tables and barbecue grills. While one shelter can be reserved for groups, the other two are strictly first-come, first-served. People use the paths for walking and scootering, but it’s worth noting that there is no dedicated children's playground. For indoor gatherings, there is a rentable community room with a full kitchen and surrounding patios. Throughout the year, the park functions as a community stage. The free summer concert series is a major seasonal ritual, drawing crowds that spread out across the lawns with their own chairs, blankets, and food. Regular free fitness classes, from yoga to zumba, also take place on the grass. From June through August, a water bus service docks here, connecting the park to other spots around the marina. For those arriving by boat, guest docks are available for stays of up to seven nights. A pay parking lot is available on-site.
