First Awakenings

Bustling corner diner dishing up huge plates of American breakfast classics – from Crab Cake Benedict to peach granola pancakes. A line forms early, but every table gets its own pitcher of coffee to start.

The crowd gathering on the sidewalk usually signals the wait time long before you reach the host stand. Since moving from its original industrial space to this standalone location, First Awakenings has operated as a high-volume engine for traditional American breakfast. Inside, the space is brighter and airier than the typical diner template, with high ceilings and white walls bouncing the noise around a room that feels surprisingly spacious given the jam-packed parking lot. This is straight-ahead morning food without the brunch-cocktail distraction – you won’t find mimosas or bellinis here, just pitchers of coffee left right on the table so you never have to flag down a refill. The kitchen deals in massive quantities, sending out plates heavy with portions that often defeat single diners; half-orders of eggs Benedict or skillets are a standard request for a reason. The menu sprawls across chalkboard walls and printed sheets, covering everything from crab cake Benedicts and habanero omelets to sweet stacks of blueberry ricotta pancakes. It is a purely first-come, first-served operation that rewards early risers. By 8:30 AM, the queue is usually established, though a digital waitlist helps manage the overflow. If the main room is full, seating spills out onto a patio that accommodates dogs and anyone willing to brave the coastal morning air for a quicker table.
