Cafe Mysore has held its spot on the King's Circle roundabout in Matunga since 1936, making it one of the oldest Udupi restaurants in Mumbai. Its founder, A. Rama Nayak, was a pioneer who helped introduce the city to authentic South Indian cooking, and the place is still run by his family three generations later. The core mission has never changed – to serve simple, home-style vegetarian food. This consistency is what has made it a neighborhood landmark. The space is clean, functional, and almost always bustling with noise and activity. A non-air-conditioned hall takes up the ground floor, while two air-conditioned rooms offer seating upstairs. The atmosphere is no-frills and focused entirely on the food, with service that is famously fast and efficient. Near the entrance, a dedicated counter sells packaged South Indian snacks like murukku and various sweets for takeaway. The menu is a straightforward list of Udupi classics. You'll find a wide variety of dosas – including the Mysore Masala and Neer Dosa – but a truly traditional specialty is the Khotto Idli, which is steamed inside jackfruit leaves. Other staples include the Rasam Idli, Onion Uttappa, and Pineapple Sheera for something sweet. A meal here isn’t complete without the South Indian filter coffee. It’s a very popular spot for breakfast, and during peak hours you should expect to wait for a table. Just remember that the restaurant does not accept credit cards; payment is by cash or UPI only.
