Bar Snack

Cozy, candlelit wine bar focused on natural French producers. The menu is tight and simple: just cheese, charcuterie, and other small plates designed to pair with a glass or two.

A single, dimly lit room on a quiet West Village side street, Bar Snack is built around a long marble bar that takes up most of the space. It’s a tight, intimate setup, with just a few small two-tops lining the opposite brick wall and a short banquette tucked into the back. The whole place is warm and glowing, lit by low-hanging pendants that reflect off the rows of bottles behind the counter. There’s no host stand; you just walk in and find a spot where you can. The bar is the center of gravity here. It’s where the bartenders put together a focused list of classic cocktails and a few house creations, all made with precision. The wine and beer lists are similarly concise and well-chosen. Behind them, a chalkboard lists the day’s snacks – a tight, frequently changing menu of elevated small plates. You’ll find things like meticulously prepared deviled eggs, high-quality tinned fish served with thick slices of crusty bread, or a single, perfect meatball in red sauce. This isn’t a full restaurant; the food is designed to complement a drink, not replace a meal. It’s a true neighborhood place, drawing a steady crowd for pre-dinner drinks or a final nightcap. The seats at the bar are the ones everyone wants, offering a direct line to the bartenders and a view of the action. Later in the evening, especially on weekends, the room fills up completely, growing loud and energetic. It’s not built for big groups; this is a spot for pairs or a solo drink at the bar.
