New York City

Overstory

Intimate cocktail lounge atop an Art Deco skyscraper, wrapped by a terrace with 360-degree skyline views. The menu is spirit-forward and creative – think tequila Old Fashioneds and clarified milk punches with Earl Grey and champagne.

Sixty-four floors up inside the historic Art Deco skyscraper at 70 Pine Street, Overstory is a cocktail bar with a view that wraps around the entire building. The experience begins in the building’s red marble lobby, where you’ll be directed to a dedicated elevator. After the ride up, a final ascent up a travertine stairwell delivers you into the bar itself, a journey designed to set the stage for the space. The main room is an intimate, oval-shaped lounge with just a handful of seats. Its design is all soft textures and muted tones – pink-sunset silk panels cover the walls, velvet banquettes line the perimeter, and a glowing central bar anchors the space. This cozy interior opens onto a wraparound terrace that provides a full 360-degree panorama of lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the harbor. Out here, the forty-five seats are heated, making the outdoor space usable even on colder nights. The cocktail list is spirit-forward, with a focus on agave and whiskey. One notable drink is the Terroir Old Fashioned, made with tequila, palo santo, and salt harvested by the bar team from Fort Tilden in Queens. There’s a one-drink-per-person minimum, and a credit card is taken at the lobby entrance before you head up. Small plates, like hummus or a grilled cheese, are also available. The bar intentionally maintains a low capacity, which keeps the atmosphere relaxed and conversational. For sunset views, it’s a good idea to arrive early, as a queue often forms.
