The menu at Markette is a direct reflection of chef India Doris, who grew up in London with a Jamaican mother and a Scottish father. Her cooking blends the Caribbean flavors of her childhood with the refined European techniques she developed working in kitchens like the two-Michelin-starred Saga and Crown Shy. This background comes through in a dinner-only menu of shareable plates – dishes like Peri Peri Chicken, Salt Cod Fritters, and a rich Oxtail Gratin with toasted polenta are designed to be passed around the table. The main dining room is on the ground floor, a compact space with seating for about 50. Its look is distinct – burnt-orange banquettes, Murano glass chandeliers, and gold accents create a warm, glowing atmosphere. Hand-painted murals of the English countryside cover the walls, a nod to the chef's upbringing. A long concrete bar runs along one side, with room for another 15 people to settle in for a drink or a full meal. Below the restaurant, a separate space called The Argyle operates as a dedicated cocktail bar. The focus on creative, seasonal drinks is a constant across both floors, and the cocktail program is just as central to the experience as the food. The entire setup is built for group dining, and the expectation is that you’ll order a collection of plates to share. It's a social, lively spot where the conversation flows as much as the cocktails, whether you're dining upstairs or just stopping in at The Argyle for a drink.
