Musaafer

The name Musaafer means "traveler," and that single idea is the foundation for this fine-dining Indian restaurant inside Tribeca’s historic Hope Building. Spanning 10,000 square feet across two levels, the entire space is designed as a journey through India’s architectural history. The rooms are opulent and transportive, with towering marble walls, intricate glasswork, and lotus-shaped chandeliers inspired by landmarks like the Taj Mahal. One of the most striking areas is the "Sheesh Mahal," or Palace of Mirrors – a semi-private dining room covered in thousands of hand-cut mirror pieces. This concept of a journey extends directly to the menu, which presents modern dishes from across the country’s 29 states. The kitchen reinterprets regional recipes with dishes like Nihari Birria Tacos, Paneer Rizala, and Khasi Black Sesame Cod. You can order à la carte or go for the full tasting menu experience. A core part of the meal is the storytelling – staff will often explain the history and specific regional ingredients behind each plate as it arrives. The presentation is consistently elaborate and artistic, making it a popular choice for anniversaries, birthdays, and other special occasions. Downstairs, a separate speakeasy-style bar called Saaqi has its own distinct atmosphere and serves creative cocktails built around Indian botanicals. It’s a quieter, more intimate space for a drink before or after dinner.
