A few blocks from Palm Springs’ busiest stretch, El Mirasol Cocina Mexicana stands apart with its own shaded patio – the spot most regulars aim for when the weather’s right, which is nearly always. The building is easy to find, and the entry leads straight into a practical layout: tables for small groups and bigger parties, with the parking lot wrapping around back for easy access. The menu keeps to traditional Mexican staples. Chorizo nachos, mole chicken, pork chili verde, and cheese enchiladas with mole turn up on most tables. The shrimp in pipián – a pumpkin seed sauce ground fresh in-house – draws regulars, and the kitchen presses handmade corn tortillas daily. Sides are standard: Mexican rice, refried beans with melted cheese, and always a stack of tortillas. Margaritas come in several styles, from skinny to Cadillac to a jalapeño version that’s served by the glass or pitcher. Every table gets a giant bottle of hot sauce, and takeout moves out the front for those not staying. The rhythm stays casual – no dress code, no pretense. Some nights bring a guitarist or mariachi player to the patio, but most of the time it’s just the usual mix of families, locals, and visitors. The shaded patio draws the most attention for outdoor meals, especially in the evening. El Mirasol has been around for decades, and while it occasionally turns up on TV food shows, it remains a neighborhood fixture. The kitchen leans on old-school methods – mole and pipián made from scratch, tortillas pressed by hand. The setup works for groups as much as for solo diners, and there’s always room to spread out if needed.
