Precita Social

Cozy corner bistro serving creative American plates designed for sharing. The menu mixes high and low: Santa Barbara uni handrolls and miso black cod sit alongside a classic Wagyu cheeseburger.

I have a favorite coffee shop in every neighborhood.

Precita Social holds a corner spot right by Precita Park, its large windows looking out onto the Bernal Heights neighborhood. Inside, the space is a warm and cozy bistro with dark wood tables, a long bar, and an atmosphere that feels intentionally relaxed. This is the more accessible, a la carte venture from Greg Lutes, the chef behind the nearby fine-dining spot, 3rd Cousin, and it was conceived as a true community hub – a place for neighbors to gather without the formality of a tasting menu. The menu is built on that same idea, taking classic American dishes and weaving in French, Japanese, and Italian techniques and flavors. Sourced from local farmers, foragers, and fishermen, the offerings are designed for sharing. You’ll find bistro staples like steak frites alongside a raw bar selection and the four-ounce Wagyu cheeseburger that first became a hit at Lutes' other restaurant. Other dishes show the kitchen's range – think a handroll with Santa Barbara uni and Maine lobster, or a recurring Miso Black Cod. It’s the kind of place that functions as a reliable neighborhood fixture but is also a common choice for celebrating a birthday or anniversary. The chef has even been known to mix a rice dish tableside, adding a personal touch to the meal. The whole experience is relaxed but attentive, often ending with the much-talked-about Dubai Chocolate Sundae.
