The Vault Garden

Lush, year-round garden on a corporate plaza, serving steakhouse classics and fresh oysters. Live piano music is a constant, setting the tone for date nights and celebratory group dinners.

Set on the plaza of the 555 California skyscraper, The Vault Garden is a year-round outdoor dining space built right into the concrete landscape of the Financial District. The entire area is designed as an urban retreat, with lush greenery and modern furniture surrounded by the towering buildings. Because the space is both heated and fully covered, it operates consistently through San Francisco’s changing weather. The establishment is actually two distinct experiences. Up on the plaza is the main, open-air garden. Down a flight of stairs, you’ll find The Vault Steakhouse, a more traditional indoor dining room and subterranean lounge. Both areas often have live piano music, which carries through the spaces and sets a classic, charming tone for the evening. The menu is contemporary American with a clear steakhouse focus. A massive Tomahawk ribeye is a common sight, alongside dishes like tater tots topped with caviar, fresh oysters, and duck with perfectly crispy skin. There are also plenty of creative vegetable dishes, like spring peas and baby carrots, that go beyond the usual steakhouse sides. For a more structured meal, a multi-course chef's tasting menu is a regular option. While the restaurant serves lunch and a daily happy hour, it really comes alive for dinner. The layout naturally suits different occasions – the garden is often filled with group dinners and celebrations, while the downstairs steakhouse provides a more intimate, classic setting. The restaurant also leans into seasonal events, sometimes transforming the entire garden for a theme like its "Winter Wonderland."
