Kensington Market is my favorite spot for street food and vintage finds. Streetcar rides are my thinking time.
The grill built into every table is the whole point of Yakiniku Legend, a spacious all-you-can-eat spot on McCaul Street. This is an interactive Japanese barbecue experience where you are in charge of cooking. The space itself is modern and open, with an effective ventilation system designed to pull most of the smoke away – a detail that means you don’t leave smelling like your meal. The process is straightforward. You order by checking off items on a paper menu, and the staff brings out platters of raw ingredients for you to cook. For the grill, the focus is on beef, with multiple cuts like Prime Kalbi boneless short rib, marinated steak, and beef tongue. You'll also find classics like pork belly and chicken thigh, alongside vegetables, mushrooms, and cheese corn. As you move through the meal, staff will come by to swap out the grill plates, keeping them clean for the next round. But the grilling is only half the menu. The all-you-can-eat price also covers a full selection of sushi, from pressed oshizushi to rolls like the Dark Angel and Volcano. A long list of hot sides includes things like takoyaki, gyoza, spicy rock shrimp, and kimchi, rounding out the meal. The place is almost always busy, even on weekdays, so making a reservation is a good idea to avoid a long wait. Payment is cash and debit only.
